Introduction

Three-Phase Electric Loco Simulator allows loco pilots to be trained in realistic scenarios in a controlled environment. The following training objectives are defined –

  • Uniformity in the driving behaviour across the Indian Railways.
  • Decreasing the amount of equipment damages due to poor driving procedures.
  • Increasing efficiency through reduction of time delays.
  • Developing a quick response time of loco pilots in potentially dangerous situations, such as track obstructions, poorly configured train rakes defecting signalling which may be encountered but cannot be created in real life.
  • good driving practices including adherence to the general operating rules in force on Indian Railways.
  • Assessing the capability of loco pilots in respect to heavy haul, high speed passenger operations and suburban mass transits.
  • Assessing the capability of loco pilots in understanding various aspects of longitudinal train dynamics, forces, effect on the train of negotiating undulated and curved track sections of varying grades, application and release of brake cylinders, brake propagation and the effect of having remote locomotive contacts.
  • Developing the loco pilot’s ability to troubleshoot various malfunctions in the locomotive equipment that are normally encountered during train operations.
  • Improve energy efficiency.
  • Understand speed restrictions en-route.
  • Storage of trainees driving records.
